Very good points Jeff. I'm sure Apple wanted the 3G upgrade path to be as easy as you do, but my guess is that AT&T wanted to maintain some control, especially because of the low prices and the lessons learned from the cracking of the 1st gen iPhone.
Wow, I had no idea the data/calling plans would be that pricey and convoluted. That really is ridiculous.
The only way companies learn is through loss. I wish people could resist the urge to upgrade every time the latest iteration of anything comes out. There will always be consumers who are willing to fuck themselves and corporations know that. How can you create a competitive, consumer friendly market when folks are lining up on launch day ready and willing to take it in the ass?
