I'd add to this that Apple's focus with Snow Leopard on tightening Mac OS X to run more efficiently certainly corresponds to the idea that it may be running on something smaller and leaner (and multi-touchier).

I also wonder if Apple's strict NDA for iPhone developers has anything to do with obscuring information in the SDK that points to future touch-enabled devices...
