Hope
I have to admit that I'm surprised the Democrats took back the House and- apparently- the Senate.
My cynicism had gotten to the point where I was doubting the ability of an opposition party in general- and the Democrats in particular- to use the electoral process to defeat the Republicans.
But they did, and it's amazing how much difference a day makes. We're now living in a "post-11/7" world, and I hope everyone will take away a few important lessons.
Rampant partisanship is bad. One party control of government is bad. Extremism at both ends of the spectrum is bad.
And, most importantly- the will of the people really does matter.
